【アーティストステイトメント】

MANABU KISHIMOTOは、何層にも重ねた絵の具を削ることで、人間の「存在」そのものを描き出そうとしている。

彼の作品は、日本の伝統技法「研ぎ出し」を応用し、幾層にも塗り重ねたアクリル絵具を水研ぎすることで、削られた表層の下から複雑に重なり合う色彩の痕跡を浮かび上がらせる。

この「削る」という行為を通して、社会が引いた境界線や後付けされた属性を取り払い、人間がただ「在る」ということ、その純粋な存在の本質を浮かび上がらせることを試みている。

 

【作品ステイトメント】

外見、性別、地位、民族などは人間を形作る一要素に過ぎず、人間の本質を定義するものではない。

私たちは日常の中で、無意識のうちに外見や性別、地位、民族などによって人を分類し、境界線を引くことで関係を築いている。
しかし、その境界を取り払ったときに残るのは、ただ「人である」ということ。その普遍的な在り方にほかならない。

「人とは何か」―― 境界を削ぎ落とし、外的な属性が消えたとき、そこには何が残るのか。

何層にも重ねた絵の具を「削る」という行為を通して、私たちが無意識に引く境界を超え、ただ人として「在る」こと、人間の「存在」そのものを描き出そうとしている。

 

 

【Artist statement】

MANABU KISHIMOTO attempts to depict human existence itself by scraping away multiple layers of paint.

His works apply the traditional Japanese technique of "togidashi," in which multiple layers of acrylic paint are applied and then water-brushed to reveal intricately overlapping traces of color that emerge from beneath the scraped-away surface.

Through this act of "scraping," he attempts to remove the boundaries and attributes that society has drawn and to highlight the pure essence of human existence, that is, that we simply "exist."

 

【Artwork Description】

Appearance, gender, status, ethnicity, etc. are merely some elements that shape who we are, but they do not define our true essence.

In our daily lives, we unconsciously categorize people by appearance, gender, status, ethnicity, etc., and build relationships by drawing boundaries.

However, when those boundaries are removed, all that remains is the simple act of "being human." This is none other than that universal way of being.

"What is a human?" -- what remains when boundaries are scraped away and external attributes disappear?

Through the act of "scraping" away multiple layers of paint, the artist attempts to transcend the boundaries we unconsciously draw and depict simply "being" human, human "existence" itself.
