この世界と絵を描くということ

幼少期の私は本の虫で図書館に通っては小説や図鑑を読み漁っていました。ある時プランクトンの図鑑を見た時、自分が今まで目で見た透明な水の中にはたくさんの生き物がいたということに大きな衝撃を受けました。
そこから拡大すると様々な世界が存在することを知りました。 木には枝があり、その先にある葉には葉脈が刻まれその中には葉緑体といった細胞があり、その中にさらに核があり… 世界の全てに、自身の肉眼では見ることのできないパーツが存在している。 それは嘘のような本当で、果てしなく続いているような錯覚を呼び起こします。
規則性のあるパターンを緻密に描写することは対象の中へ、物質の中へ、細胞の中へ入り込むことです。そして、全てのパーツをひと目で見渡したい。そんな欲求にかられています。

As a child, I was a bookworm who spent countless hours at the library, devouring novels and illustrated books. One day, I came across an illustrated book on plankton and was astonished to discover that the clear water I had always seen with my own eyes was teeming with tiny living creatures.
That moment opened my eyes to the idea that countless worlds exist when we look closer. A tree has branches, and at the ends of those branches are leaves, each etched with veins. Inside those veins are cells like chloroplasts, and within those chloroplasts are nuclei... Every part of the world contains elements invisible to the naked eye. It’s a reality that feels almost unreal—invoking a sense of endlessness.
To carefully depict a regular, ordered pattern is, for me, to enter into the object itself—into the material, into the cell. I’m driven by a deep desire to grasp and view all of these parts in a single moment, all at once.
