京都芸術大学卒業。

職人として刃物製作に携わる傍ら、日本各地の郷土玩具や農民美術に着目し、現代における民衆芸術の可能性から“ものづくりの豊かさ”を問い直す「NEO郷土玩具プロジェクト」を展開している。

「NEO郷土玩具」は、1919年に山本鼎が提唱した農民美術運動にインスピレーションを受け、それが持っていた“生活に根ざした創造の豊かさ”と、日本各地で育まれてきた郷土玩具の“自由な創造性”を、現代的な視点で融合・再解釈する試みである。

作品は、身近な素材や日常の風景、人の佇まいなどから着想を得て制作されており、木彫による『ほりこ人形』、伝統技法を応用した『張子人形』、独自の技法による『ぬりこ人形』など、多様な手法で表現される。いずれの作品も、郷土玩具に見られる懐かしさや愛らしさを大胆なデフォルメで表現しつつ、制作者自身の観察や感覚に基づいた“個人的なまなざし”が込められている。
また一部の作品は、実際に手に取って遊ぶことができる玩具として設計されており、鑑賞者が触れながら楽しむ中で、自らの記憶や想像力を自由に働かせることができる構造となっている。

「NEO郷土玩具」を通じて、私は“創造することの楽しさ”や“暮らしの中にある豊かさ”に目を向け、誰もが創造性を発揮し、豊かな生を築いていける社会の可能性を模索している。

While working as a cutlery craftsman, I focus on Japanese folk toys and the Nōmin Bijutsu (Peasant Art) movement, exploring the possibilities of people's art in the present day. Through this inquiry, I have launched the “NEO Folk Toy Project,” which reexamines the richness of creativity in everyday life.

Inspired by the Nōmin Bijutsu movement initiated by Kanae Yamamoto in 1919, the “NEO Folk Toy” project seeks to reinterpret the movement’s emphasis on creativity rooted in daily life, alongside the free-spirited imagination found in traditional folk toys from across Japan, through a contemporary lens.

Drawing inspiration from familiar materials, everyday scenery, and the quiet presence of people, the project produces works such as Horiko Dolls (wooden carvings), Papier-mâché figures made using traditional techniques, and Nuriko Dolls, created through an original method. Each piece incorporates bold stylization reminiscent of traditional folk toys, while also reflecting the maker’s personal perspective through careful observation and sensibility.

Some of the works are designed to function as toys that can be played with—inviting tactile interaction and stimulating the viewer’s imagination and memory.

Through “NEO Folk Toys,” I aim to encourage people to rediscover the joy of creation and the richness found in everyday life. I hope to contribute to a world where everyone can live creatively and lead a life enriched by making.
